I just made my first transaction on Live Nation, which is trying to merge with ticket sales overlord TicketMaster (CEO: Money grubbing Guns N’ Roses, Van Halen, Steely Dan and NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK manager Irving Azoff). Remember like a year or so ago when you would go to buy a ticket it would sometimes bring you to the old school order and if it was a pre-sale you would go to LiveNation? Fucking stupid, now they’ll be the same company. Anyway, I just bought a pair of tickets to see Protest the Hero (rawk!) in May. I have to say the Live Nation site was pretty intuitive. When I searched for the tickets I was able to easily find them and, much to my surprise, they were only sixteen bucks! That fuckin’ rules – I would have shelled out 25 if I was asked to do so. What follows is a harrowing tale of trivial amounts of money, deciet and a broken (and just fucking broke) young man.

My last installment of “What Not To Listen To: Static X” was featured on the old site and was one of the few things that didn’t make it over to the new one when we switched last August. So, I’ll be posting that as soon as I find the original document.

What Not To Listen To is my opportunity to pick a horrible, obviously hated band and just tear them to shreds for both musical and non-musical reasons. Wayne Static and Static X had it coming from day one and so has Papa Roach. I understand the easiness of tearing down each of these bands, but I’m gonna do it anyway.

Frequently I find myself gazing at this site. This magnificent creation which I and a few co-conspirators have grown from literally nothing to an unstoppable force of comedy and music destroying an Internet filled to the brim with bullshit. However, when I lovingly bear witness to my creation, I oftentimes wonder “why is it called SmartassRadio.com?” Is it because we’re a bunch of smartasses parading around the radio industry and internet with a sword of wit and a shield of good-natured joshing? Is it because we feel that Internet radio needs another batch of smartasses and shock jocks? No, neither of these answers suffices. In fact, the real reason is far greater than I or even the Internet at large can comprehend. The real answer is this: James and I drunkenly bought the domain like two years ago and now we’re stuck with it.

So, here we are: we have the word “radio” in our URL and I find myself looking at a site without a single music related post on the entire front page. So here, for everyone’s enjoyment, is the list everyone’s been waiting for. What do I, DJ Scully, creator and overlord of SmartassRadio.com, think the best albums of the past year are?

This interview really doesn’t need much of an introduction. It was conducted on March 5th, 2008 and I’m really proud of it. I’m not joking when I say that if you like either “Skid Row” or “Slave to the Grind” you’ll love “Angel Down.” Baz is a maniac in all the best ways, as evidenced here. Enjoy!

Dick and I drove all the way to Massachusetts on Sunday to attend LOCOFEST 07. We were blown away by a few bands and completely and utterly under whelmed by even more. Among the best bands there were NJ’s Swashbuckle and of course Ron Thal. Alice Cooper put everyone to shame and I think I put it best while waiting for Heaven and Hell when I said “How could you possibly feel like you’re putting on a legitimate rock show going on after Alice Cooper”. Interview: Bumblefoot at Locofest \’07

On March 28th, DJ got a chance to chat on the phone with Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, the current guitar player Guns N’ Roses. An edited version aired on April 4th on WFNP at SUNY New Paltz- but this is the whole goddamned thing. Topics include shoes, fingernails, downloading music, and of course- tons of guitar chat.
