Smartass Radio 51: We’re Trying Now

This week’s podcast marks a definite change in direction. After 50 rambling messes, we (I) decided to take the reigns and practice some preproduction for realsies. Of course the day between recording and posting, Michael Jackson died. Hopefully, everyone will be very very tired of hearing about him, as unbelievable as his death truly is, because there is no coverage here. We do talk about Ed McMahon at length – let’s face it, Michael Jackson and maybe even Farrah Fawcet are really raining on his funeral procession. We also invented a game called “Carcass or Surgery” where I had to guess whether or not James added a term from a sex-change operation to a Carcass lyric.

We also decided to feature some new music this week from bands LAF and Zero System. Don’t let James’ fucking their names up in the intro fool you, we do really like these bands. If you want your music featured on the show, just send some mp3′s in an email to SmartassRadio@gmail.com.

Here’s the show:

Podcast 50: Was This Supposed To Be A Milestone

Hey all,

This week we had a packed house as Patty, Roy, James and I gingerly sipped alcohol in a dingy basement. This week’s topics included the supposed Rihanna sex tape which stars an actress who looks nothing like Rihanna, a week old puppy getting flushed down the toilet, Patty’s impending death on her way to Oregon and some other shit too…

Oh and we watched this video:

SmartassRadio 49: Sex, Drugs, Little Boys and Rock n’ Roll

And with the new site, James has finally made his triumphant return! We had a really good time recording this on Wednesday. We covered all the big news and some personal stuff as well. We talked about this asshat, these kinky motherfuckers:

and James’ first bachelor party experience among other things.

Look out for weekly podcasts to be posted every Friday from now until I get a real radio gig and outgrow posting shows on my own website. Now, here ya go:

SmartassRadio 48: Interview: Tim Millar of Protest the Hero

protest_the_hero_DJ_and_Tim.jpg After what felt like three months without a post we’re back with a killer interview. To celebrate completing school my girl and I went on one of the most metal tears ever. My last day of class was 5/6/09 and I capped it with an extreme performance by GWAR at the Chance in Poughkeepsie then after a night of debauchery with Frank we were off to NYC. On Friday, we caugh the No Fear Energy Music Tour with Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying (who definitely deserve a new found respect from me), Children of Bodom (who only played three songs – Alexi “Avian Bone Syndrome” Laiho destroyed his shoulder and couldn’t perform) and God Forbid. On Sunday we were able to see Mastodon perform Crack the Skye at the Williamsburgh Theater in Brooklyn – if you have the opportunity, you have to go.

But Saturday is truly the important night right now. I had the opportunity to sit down with Protest the Hero guitarist Tim Millar and got a great interview. Tim was a great guy and the staff at the Blender Theater was one of the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Being in the midst of the most metal weekend I’ve ever had, I didn’t have too much time to prepare so please bear with the interview as I stumble through the first few questions. Also worth noting is the fact that Roy coming to the interview wasn’t ever even an option, so I don’t know why I felt it necessary to say he “pussed out.” I’m a horrible friend. Below is the interview and a flash gallery. After the jump is another gallery if you have trouble with this one and a transcription of some of the highlights.

Lorraine took all the pictures, which you can see kick an insane amount of ass.

SmartassRadio 47: Last Live Show on WFNP

edge-logo.jpg

Hey all, here’s a bitter-sweet podcast (or “Bittersuite” as Motley Crue would have you believe, Nikki Sixx is a god damned poet) – the recording of my last college radio show. Honestly I think it’s one of our best ever. Tommi-Grace Melito sat in with us and we had a really good time. Thanks to everyone for all the love receiecved last night, it really meant a lot to me.

I also decided to include the last ever In-Crowd from the night before. The In-Crowd was my other show with Tommi, and Jesse “NoWonder” Martinez. Again, definitely one of our better shows. For once, I think I can say I was on my game two nights in a row… you be the judge

SmartassRadio 46: Interview: Tony Fredianelli of Third Eye Blind

I’m a total ass – I messed up the first eight minutes of this excellent interview by not having my board settings correct. So, here’s what you get (still 20 minutes long…)

I’m Calling You Out, Toronto

I understand some of the people who visit this site don’t necessarily listen to  the live show, download the podcast, follow us on twitter or know us personally. So, I’m taking the time to get those people caught up on my latest antagonist act. While using stumbleupon the other day, I came across this obnoxious piece of P.O.O.P – People Offended by Offensive People. Naturally, I tweated to my many many followers. Someone happened across said tweat and we were off to the races:

Here’s a clip from the most recent show (4/16/09) explaining my problems with Toronto, issuing some serious threats, making some observations about the city and  telling jokes specific only to the Toronto Maple Leafs hockey club being fed to me by Uncle Pete.
