SmartassRadio 44: Live Show Feb. 19, 2008

Here’s the live show from almost two months ago. I’m slowly making my way through all the shows since this one. We cover a ton of topics, but perhaps the best comes about 17 min. in. Pitchfork gave the 1989 album Paul’s Boutique by the Beastie Boys a 10/10. That’s stupid.

THIS is the official debut of The In-Crowd on the Internet. It’s my (DJ) second show on The Edge and it’s co-hosted by friends Tommi-Grace Melito and Jesse “NoWonder” Martinez.

The Internet: What?

The Internet is a many splendored thing. If I were to try to hunt down a video of a woman doin’ it in an ET costume (link NSFW and probably not safe for 99% of the population – you’ve been warned), it would take literally hours in the real world. If I wanted to know the complete history of hampsterdance.com I would probably have to track down the original owners/operators of the site. If, say, I wanted to hear the ramblings of two boring, under-produced and over-hyped metal nerds, I would actually have to sit around at my nearest Gibson dealer – a fate worse than castration. And, of course if I wanted to see Val Kilmer in 2008, I would have had to actually find him way back then. Luckily for me, none of those scenarios ever has to happen thanks to the Internet.

Smartass Radio 42: Live Show February 5, 2009

This mess of a radio show is the first of the semester. Topics include Michael Phelps, Bill Gates, and Facebook. Also, we found out that Roy is a racist, sexist, ageist, fatist asshole who thinks strippers are too dumb to be president of the U.S. Please forgive his ignorance.

Be sure to turn in next week at 8PM EST on WFNP.ORG. From 8-10PM is SmartassRadio.com talk-style with a bit of music mixed in (which you can’t get on the podcast) and from 10-11 PM DJ will be starting metal night on WFNP so call in with any and all metal requests.

SmartassRadio 39: Interview: Andrew W.K.

No one has mastered the art of partying like Andrew W.K. For those who are unaware, he’s just released a compilation of his monthly advice column in Japan, has been featured in the January ’09 Esquire and is basically my new messiah. For those who haven’t had the pleasure, an Andrew W.K. party is truly a religious experience. Click here for tour dates.

What follows is our chat before the show, a photo gallery of winnebago/live shots and a full transcription of the interview (yeah, we’re starting to actually do some work around here). Enjoy!

SmartassRadio 38: Interview: Michale Graves

Here’s another interview for you… I know, two in two weeks is a lot to stomach. This one is with Michale Graves. You might best know him for his years with the Misfits. Currently, he’s traversing the globe with Marky Ramone‘s Blitzkrieg tour, singing 30 Ramones songs, pushing his new album Illusions Live/Viretta Park, and (as I forgot to mention in the interview) starring in movies – Perkins 14 is to be featured in this coming year’s  Horrorfest‘s 8 Films to Die For. In this interview we cover the West Memphis 3, the current Blitzkrieg tour and what it means to be a conservative punk.

SmartassRadio 37: Interview: R.A. Riekki

R.A. Riekki‘s new book U.P. is available on Ghost Road Press. It’s really the best book I’ve read since the first time I read Choke. I’m not just blowing smoke up his ass, it’s really that good. What follows is a 45 minute interview conducted on December 18, 2008. We cover topics as diverse as his recent stint teaching lifers in an Alabama prison to how Slayer and Ice Cube helpd shaped the characters of the novel. It’s really one of our best interviews yet. You do NOT want to skip this one. You can purchase the book at Ghost Road Press, Amazon or at various retail outlets throughout the county.

Roy’s Room

For some reason me and Roy think everyone cares about where we live and what we do. Lucky for you, we’re moving into a new apartment together so we’ll be able to pump out mores podcasts/posts for you to listen to and read. But until then, theese are the conditions in which we’re living and working. Behind the jump is a video of Roy’s room and some pics of our portable studio (it’s not really a studio).
